Hákonarætt Hall of Restoration & Kinship (HHRK) is the prison and restoration ministry of Hákonarætt Fellowship, Inc., serving incarcerated practitioners of the Old Ways and supporting religious life, formation, responsibility, renewal, and belonging.
Rooted in the Old Norse religious tradition, the Hall provides religious resources, study, correspondence, and opportunities for connection while encouraging each person to cultivate wisdom, character, and a good name.
Founded in the spirit of honor, frith, hospitality, and lifelong learning, the Hall exists to help sustain religious life during incarceration and to encourage responsibility, restoration, and meaningful connection beyond confinement. We seek to provide a steady religious foundation through which individuals may learn, reflect, practice, grow, and remain connected to a living tradition.
The Old Ways are lived through devotion, remembrance, study, observance, and fellowship. Through these practices we revere the Gods, remember our ancestors, respect the landvættir, cultivate frith, and strengthen the bonds that connect practitioners to the wider religious community.
Confinement may change where religious life is practiced, but it need not extinguish the inner hearth.
Inspired by the legacy of King Hákon the Good, we look to an example remembered in the sagas for courage, wisdom, reconciliation, and conviction joined with humility. His example reminds us that strength and conviction need not stand apart from wisdom, hospitality, and respect for others.
HHRK welcomes incarcerated practitioners, those returning to their communities, sincere seekers of the Old Ways, chaplains and religious-services staff, and others who wish to learn about or support the work of the Hall.
Whether someone is taking their first steps into the Old Norse religious tradition or has practiced for many years, the Hall seeks to provide respectful access to religious resources, formation, fellowship, and opportunities for meaningful connection.
The Hall is a ministry of Hákonarætt Fellowship, Inc., and shares in the Fellowship's religious tradition, principles, and wider work of education, formation, and community.
Hákonarætt provides the larger religious household within which the Hall carries out its particular ministry of restoration and kinship. Through that relationship, practitioners served by the Hall are connected not merely to a program, but to a living religious tradition and a wider fellowship.
We believe that restoration is built patiently over time. Our work is not simply concerned with the circumstances of the present, but with helping people carry religious life, responsibility, wisdom, and meaningful relationships forward.
We seek a future in which those served by the Hall can continue to keep the inner hearth, build a good name, strengthen bonds of kinship, and contribute honorably to the communities of which they are a part.
