At Hákonar Highland Rim Kindred (HHRK), we revere the Gods of the Old Norse religious tradition as our Gods—divine beings worthy of honor, gratitude, devotion, and sacrifice.
Our relationship with the Gods is nurtured through blóts, sumbels, seasonal holy tides, prayer, offerings, study, and faithful living. We believe devotion is expressed not only through sacred rites, but also through lives marked by integrity, generosity, hospitality, courage, and frith.
While individual members may feel a special devotion to particular Gods, HHRK honors the Norse pantheon as a whole, recognizing that each reveals different aspects of divine wisdom and order.
The Allfather • Wisdom • Poetry • Leadership
Odin reminds us that wisdom is never gained without sacrifice. His relentless pursuit of knowledge encourages us to seek understanding with humility, discipline, and perseverance.
HHRK looks to Odin as an example of thoughtful leadership, lifelong learning, and the continual pursuit of truth.
Protector • Strength • Courage • Dependability
Thor is the defender of both gods and humanity, protecting the order that allows families and communities to flourish.
His strength is exercised in service rather than domination, reminding us that courage exists to defend what is good, uphold our responsibilities, and preserve frith.
Mjölnir remains the enduring symbol of HHRK, representing both divine protection and our commitment to honorable living.
Peace • Prosperity • Fertility • Stewardship
Freyr is associated with peace, abundance, fruitful labor, and the blessings of the earth.
His example encourages gratitude, generosity, responsible stewardship, and the cultivation of communities where families and future generations may flourish.
Love • Beauty • Devotion • Courage
Freyja reveals that compassion and courage belong together.
She reminds us that devotion requires both strength and tenderness, inspiring faithful relationships, generosity of spirit, and resilience through both joy and hardship.
Justice • Honor • Oaths
Tyr is remembered for unwavering integrity and the courage to place the common good above personal comfort.
His willingness to sacrifice for justice reminds us that honor is demonstrated through keeping our word, accepting responsibility, and acting with fairness even when doing so is difficult.
Home • Family • Hospitality • Wisdom
Frigg reminds us that enduring communities are built through faithfulness in everyday life.
Her example encourages us to strengthen our homes, care for one another, extend generous hospitality, and cultivate the spiritual household that HHRK seeks to build.
Watchfulness • Readiness • Faithful Service
As guardian of Bifröst, Heimdall represents vigilance, steadfastness, and quiet faithfulness.
He reminds us that devotion is often expressed through dependable service, careful stewardship, and faithfully carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to us.
The Old Norse tradition also honors many other Gods, including Baldr, Njörðr, Skaði, Bragi, Idunn, Ullr, Forseti, Eir, and others.
Each contributes to the richness of the tradition and may be honored according to the seasons, the needs of the community, and personal devotion.
HHRK seeks neither to reduce the tradition to a few familiar names nor to elevate one deity above all others. Instead, we recognize the richness and diversity of the Norse pantheon and encourage thoughtful, reverent devotion rooted in the sources of our tradition.
HHRK encourages both personal devotion and shared religious life.
Together we gather for blóts, sumbels, seasonal holy tides, study, fellowship, and acts of service. Through these shared practices we deepen our reverence for the Gods, strengthen the bonds of our spiritual household, and seek to live lives worthy of the blessings and responsibilities we have received.
We believe that honoring the Gods is inseparable from honoring one another, caring for the land, remembering those who came before us, and leaving a worthy legacy for those who will follow.
