The Hearth Within is a religious newsletter created for incarcerated practitioners of the Old Ways. Each issue offers reflections, teachings, and practical encouragement for maintaining religious life, cultivating responsibility, and keeping the hearth through difficult circumstances.
The walls may shape the circumstances. They need not extinguish the hearth.
The inaugural issue introduces the purpose of The Hearth Within and offers religious reflection centered on faithful practice, responsibility, community, and lifelong learning.

The hearth represents warmth, continuity, belonging, and the center of religious and household life. In circumstances where a physical hearth, familiar community, or ordinary forms of observance may be unavailable, religious life can still be carried inward.
The Hearth Within exists to help practitioners continue that work through remembrance, reflection, study, disciplined conduct, and connection with the wider religious tradition.
Teachings and reflections concerning the Gods, ancestors, landvættir, and the religious life.
Consideration of character, choices, consequences, reconciliation, and the continuing work of building a good name.
Accessible exploration of the Eddas, sagas, historical tradition, and principles that can inform religious life today.
Encouragement for strengthening healthy relationships, preparing for life beyond incarceration, and finding meaningful religious community.
Hákonarætt Fellowship welcomes inquiries from correctional chaplains seeking religious materials for incarcerated practitioners of the Old Ways. We are willing to work with institutions concerning approved formats, quantities, distribution procedures, and facility requirements.
The Fellowship focuses on faithful religious practice, community, and lifelong learning. Our emphasis is revering the Gods, honoring the ancestors, and respecting the landvættir—not politics, ancestry, or historical reenactment.
Future issues of The Hearth Within will be added here as they are published.

Religious life is not confined to a building, an altar, or a particular set of circumstances. Through remembrance, study, responsibility, and faithful practice, the hearth can be kept wherever life is being lived.
